Throughout Mark’s life, I have watched him develop a deep and steadfast commitment to truth, fairness, and helping others. From a young age, he showed a strong belief that laws and institutions are there to protect ordinary citizens—and that when systems break down, good people must step up to restore accountability.
Mark has dedicated countless hours to understanding how government systems truly function. Instead of merely criticizing issues, he studies them carefully and patiently works to resolve them. His efforts to improve public records transparency and authenticated video archives of government proceedings have helped Utah become a national leader in open access to court records and public information.

I have enjoyed a front row seat to watch Mark in almost every possible circumstance throughout his entire life. At home, in school, at work, in service, with family and with strangers, in grief and in joy. In all of these circumstances, Mark has been the most tender hearted, compassionate, and selfless person I have ever known. He has an immovable sense of truth and justice and has spent much of his life helping those in need and sticking up for the underdog – regardless of the sacrifice and personal cost.
Mark is a champion of truth, justice, transparency, and equal treatment under the law. He has spent years of his life working to protect us from big government overreach, judicial malfeasance, unfair business practices of large corporations, and special treatment for the wealthy and powerful.
Mark is a man of action. When most of us just watch and worry about what is happening in our communities around us, Mark is often the first one to step in and step up: to make us aware of dangers and unintended consequences, to organize us to stick up for one another and for what is right, and to work proactively with local, state and national government officials to fix problems and improve the future for all of us.
Mark is authentic when he speaks of citizens being unfairly accused, suffering the results of judicial malfeasance, and spending years working to rectify injustices – because he has been personally affected by each of these challenges. He knows intimately of what he speaks.
Mark is a champion of public records access for all citizens. Mark is an advocate for transparency in government and legal proceedings – including efforts to pass legislation to expand video streaming in the courts. He has invested many thousands of hours and years of his life working to understand how the system works, and fails, so he can help prevent bad things from happening to the rest of us.
Mark has shown us a powerful example of how legal protections for individual citizens – like requesting records through a GRAMA (Utah’s Government Records Access and Management Act) request can expose the truth and right wrongs that have been perpetuated on innocent victims – as he did to protect and preserve American Fork Canyon, Bridal Veil Falls, and other public resources.
Mark is committed to helping Utah become a national model for digital government that is transparent, fair, and effective in protecting and preserving our individual rights and freedoms in a rapidly changing and scary world, so we can all have confidence and feel secure with our government to protect our lives, our liberties and our pursuit of happiness.

Mark is a champion of public records access—the right to inspect, receive copies, and obtain certified public records, with full assurance of their authenticity and metadata. In today’s AI-driven world it is more important than ever for citizens and elected officials to have verified, accurate records which we can trust.
For years Mark has helped build Utah’s taxonomy and video collections on CitizenPortal.ai, the nation’s leading platform for transparency in government.
